- Tell us about yourself. What have you done since graduation and where have been?
- Almost 50 years! My husband Harvey and I celebrated our 47th anniversary in January. Harvey practices law. We married after one year of college and I went to work! I spent 15 years or more doing volunteer work and raising three kids. I had a wide range of interests - from serving on Housing Authority Board to Symphony Guild and Ronald McDonald House.
At 35, I went back to college and now I have three degrees from TTU - Communications and Political Science, undergraduate; Public Relations, masters; and Higher Education Administration, doctorate. I taught public relations at Texas Tech for several years and then went to work in k12 education as director of a technology grant for public schools and colleges in West Texas. Then, for ten years, I was coordinator of planning and development at Region 17 Education Service Center.
For eight years I worked full-time for seven small, rural school districts writing and managing grant programs. And I consult with about 25 other school districts around the state, writing grants and working with them on federal funding programs. I retired from TRS the end of August and continue with consulting business, working with more than 25 school districts in federal funding programs and technology planning. I continue to teach online for Lubbock Christian University (technology management) and Boise State University (technical writing and grant writing).
We have three grown children and four grand children. Allison, our oldest, is a human resources manager at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center; Kimberly is a secondary science teacher; her daughters are 23 and 20 (The older graduated from Lubbock Christian University, is married and teaching second grade in Crane, Texas. The younger is a sophomore at Texas Tech). Our son Craig is Associate Director of Planning and Assessment at Texas Tech University. His two boys are in second and third grades!
Our first great-grandson is due in January 2013!
We have a blessed life and are constantly challenged to be all that God wants us to be!
