Grandchildren: A Generational Group Hug Contains Disclaimer

My experience is not Typical.. My grandchild is called by my spouse, The Chosen One..He is 13.. Does he think of me at all except as a unending supply of goods and services? His Mother has schooled him well.. Basically, he is a pretty neat kid and has provided me with endless sources of amusement.. My very favorite is when while staying with him once around Christmas when he was 11,I noticed his Yorkie acting weirdly.. I asked him, "Avery what is wrong with Rockster?".. He was very focused…

These temps are Amazing!!!120 degrees was forecast for parts of Arizona, Nevada and "Sunny" California..Death Valley was forecast to reach 128 degrees Saturday..Death Valley holds the record high ever recorded on earth at  134 degrees set over a century ago. Dandridge, Tennessee

I am sure you have heard me wax poetic about my new adopted town in Tennessee if you have read any of my previous blogs..Dandridge is the 2nd oldest town in Tennessee and is named for Martha Dandridge, wife of George Washington.. It is really tiny.. The main attraction is Douglas Lake. This lake is renowned for bass fishing (every year a world class bass fishing Tournament is held here with BIG prize money) and is rated either number 1 or 2 in U.S. for crappie fishing.. So imagine my pride…

Observations at Olive Garden in Sevierville, Tennessee

I am in an Olive Garden in Sevierville, Tennessee where a large number of folks are either Grossly Fat or Tatooed,Thin, Wild-Eyed Meth Afficandos.. This individual is alone and is eating (wolfing) Breadsticks, and the Fabulous Olive Garden salad that we all love so Well.. The waiter grated cheese on this salad for a very long time.. As if this salad does not have more calories than a Double Bacon Cheeseburger.. "Oh, all I had for lunch today was Soup and Salad" I just don"t understand why I…

Judge not Lest ye be not Judged or Whatever

Sitting directly behind me at the Food Court at Harrah"s Casino is a table of three people..The man weighs at least 300 pounds..He is enjoying a convenient 6 pack of Duncan Doughnut Delites for his noon repast..They are chocolate covered creations with white goo inside..Seated across the table from this portly gentlemen is a woman whose buttocks are overflowing her chair..She might weigh  400 pounds..She is nibbling on what appears to be a dry salad..Beside the gentleman is another lady who…

Casinos as A curiousity

Casinos are a Human Zoo...No two are exactly alike..You walk way more than a long, long hike..Unless of course, you are one of the Disabled..Who ride roughshod from machine to poker table.. Able to gamble all the long day and into the night.. Alternating between portable oxygen and smoking smelly cigarettes.. Yet their stamina and Endurance are a miracle to rival the loaves and fishes. Well, all my good wishes.. My Plight is way Simple.. Like inherited blue eyes or a cute dimple.. I was born…

Succulent Sunday Salad or Dip or whatever

This came  to me today while perusing my pantry....I took beans of black.. drained them well and melded them with peas with black eyes also drained...Added some fresh cooked corn off the cob and chopped onions of red.. It maybe in my head, but I love these onions the very best.. Then nice red plump, ripe tomatoes, but failed to add any red potatoes( starchy true, but still good for you as the Health Police Proclaim)Then I took a cup of light Italian dressing and a dash of oil of the olive(…

The Unknowable

White doves and peace.. Sheep who have been Fleeced.. Steeples, bells, rituals, baptism, temples, shrouds, even sacred cows.. Churches provide spiritual balm and a warm welcome to the needy.. But they are often rife with the Greedy.. the all knowing and the folks mired in dogma and prejudice.. So what is really true? Who knew or knows for sure? Who created us and WHY? Do we not learn until we die? Or maybe not even then is the mystery revealed .. So for me,to remain free of fretting and endless…

Dangling Decades and Dotage

As we age.. We develop a preference.. Not for the Infinite and Eternal.. Instead we are firmly planted in the Present.. Like a child in his sandbox or contemplating his blocks..The present tense makes magical sense.. The young are unconcerned  and unaware of future plans and lofty goals.. Their present is our whole.. without a backward glance or modicum of Regret.. We simply Forget...Wiping the past clean, assuming it was just a Dream.. Engrossed in our own space.. Now,not then or when.. The…

Money as an Illusion

Barter like the Magna Carta.. Once was the way in the U.S.of A....From the hinterlands, prairies, valleys, vast wastelands and looming peaks...Mountain men and their kin, farmers, shopkeepers, and just plain folk.. Traded their oxen yoke.. thusly avoiding a pig in a poke.. Bartering timber, crops, livestock, nuts, seeds and even liquor.. This monetary system was sure way Quicker! And didn't Tax said liquor.. Taxes like internal gases were not pleasing to most folks who thought they were mainly a Huge…

Vulnerability

I did it again...But this time was the last..I am not going to beat myself up about this repeated failure.. It is just more than excellent that FINALLY I learned..Never again will I allow myself to become vulnerable to anyone's opinion.. Also I will win the game being played in this situation of self denial.. I want or need nothing that cannot be sacrificed.. There will be no dog.. I will not allow any opening or anything to become a pawn.. Strangely I feel very light and free.. Wanting…

When we die

So does anyone else wonder what really happens when we die? Death is one of those subjects like politics, sexuality, and religion it is best not to bring up in light, frivolous, cocktail conversation. After reading Todd Burpo"s book Heave is for Real a while back I couldn't help but laugh. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of enjoying this book I will give a brief overview.. Todd Burpo was a minister..His son was 5 and suffered a "death-like" experience.. During this event he saw…

Specialization

When American society moved from subsistence living to the Age of Connsumerism we lost the Renaissance Man Ability(for the most part.. it is way dangerous to generalize based on personal experience).A grown man throws a large round ball through a hoop and earns thousands of times more monetary compensation than say someone who actually does something useful, as for example,a carpenter..After the game(His JOB),he showers, grooms and attires himself in really expensive GEAR.Emanations of fame…
